It's great to see you here, and, of course, I'm happy to discuss and share these with you if you find that useful.

I'm reading your web pages and find a lot of interesting things, including the resources on learning communities which I'm reading now and those wonderful pictures of Scotland. They're helpful and I'll come back with more comments after reading some of them.

Hi Vic,
Just following on from our discussions here and thinking about repositories and the re-presentation of knowledge and practice etc I found a host of resources under the heading of course portfolios.

You probably already know this but these are where a tutor has re-constructed their course experience and structure etc. They then reflect upon the significance of certain moments and the thinking behind certain design decisions.

The most significant aspect of some of this is that the course portfolio is made into a publically available online document and thereby making the knowledge available to others.

Notionally, those others could organise discussions around these course portfolios too.

cheers for now,
Nick

Hi Nick,
I think that's a really good point. I suppose I'm not talking about a designer who controls a community through its design; rather someone who initiates or facilitates one. The space is sort of incidental, isn't it? But the values, climate, procedures and processes might be central?

Nick,
the other thing that occurred to me, based upon what you said, is that the design can reflect multiple authorship, and any storage of it could reflect that too, couldn't it?

Hi Nick,
thanks for that comment. Yes, I agree, it is the responsibility of both the learner and the tutor. Developing that idea a bit further, it occurs to me that both the 'learner' and the 'tutor' are learning in some situations. Similarly, both are tutoring, in 'some' situations. I guess that takes us towards a notion of some sharing of responsibility for design. The second thought I had was that the person who initiates the design might, in some contexts, have primary responsibility. At least for the early life of the design anyway. What do you think?
